From 20 October 2026, the Statistics series of Banca d'Italia will move to the Statistics Portal. Reports can be found in the Updates section. To ease the transition, until 31 December 2026 new reports will be available both here as PDFs and on the Portal as interactive HTML pages. Previous editions will remain available on this page.
The Public Finances report, updated monthly on the Statistics Portal and renamed 'General Government Debt and Borrowing Requirement', contains, in particular, the main official statistics on Italian general government debt and borrowing requirement compiled by the Banca d'Italia.
General government debt is consolidated between and within the sub-sectors (in accordance with the definition adopted for the EU Excessive Deficit Procedure) and is also broken down by creditor (holding sector), original maturity, residual maturity and currency of denomination. Statistics on financial support provided to EMU countries and general government deposits are also included.
Time series data are available in the Statistical Database (BDS) section of the website; information on the methodology used is available in the in-depth methodological analysis on the Statistics Portal.
