On 20 October 2025, World Statistics Day is celebrated under the theme 'Quality statistics and data for everyone'.

Banca d'Italia is responsible for producing and disseminating impartial, reliable, adequate, timely, consistent, and accessible statistics in its areas of competence. These statistics comply with European and international standards, guidelines and good practices (see the Public commitment on European Statistics by the ESCB) and are in accordance with the professional values and ethical principles laid down in the International Statistical Institute's Declaration on Professional Ethics.

Under national and European regulations, Banca d'Italia is entrusted with producing official statistics on the banking system, the financial markets, monetary and credit aggregates, the balance of payments, the international investment position, the financial accounts, general government debt and borrowing requirements, and the payment system. In addition, Banca d'Italia conducts sample surveys on households and firms, building up the data available for analysis and research purposes.

Easy access to quality statistics is essential for citizens, who can thus make informed decisions. Banca d'Italia disseminates statistics through various channels: statistical publications, the Statistical Database and, for microdata, the Research Data Center.
