The Bank of Italy continues to be fully engaged at the country’s service in these difficult days. It guarantees banknote circulation and the smooth functioning of the payment system, both in Italy and in the euro area. It continues to supervise the financial system and responds to the needs of banks and financial intermediaries. It intervenes in the markets to ensure the effectiveness of monetary policy measures. It plays an active role in analysing and drawing up the ECB’s measures, and it contributes to the work of the Italian and European authorities, including through analyses and proposals.
