The Tenth Annual MFAIC - Bank of Italy Conference with the heads of the representative offices and the financial attachés working abroad

The Governor of the Bank of Italy, Ignazio Visco, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, opened the works of the Tenth Annual MFAIC - Bank of Italy Conference at the Ministry’s headquarters.

In his opening address, the Governor focused on the contribution of the network of financial attachés to economic diplomacy and to the Bank of Italy’s ability to analyse global economic and financial developments. He also stressed the need for effective cooperation between the two institutions, which is increasingly important in a global context of profound economic and geopolitical changes.

According to the Governor, ‘Sixty years after the signing of the Treaties of Rome, the risk of political paralysis in Europe has never been greater. This is even more worrying in the current context, in which the main external challenges - migratory pressure, terrorism and geopolitical insecurity - are global in nature and require effective joint responses especially at European level.’" ‘Common problems’ - he said, ‘require a common response, decisive political leadership, and objective and better information."

The conference, now in its tenth year and in which the heads of the representative offices and financial attachés participate, has become a forum for the discussion of political, economic, and financial issues of strategic national interest. The 2017 conference focused on topics linked to the current political and economic landscape in Europe and the prospects for emerging economies.
