The European Council has appointed Mario Draghi President of the ECB

The European Council has appointed Mario Draghi President of the European Central Bank for the period from 1 November 2011 to 31 October 2019.

Mr Draghi will succeed Jean-Claude Trichet, whose term of office expires on 31 October.
