The Bank of Italy joins in the effort to help alleviate the consequences of the earthquake of 24 August

30 August 2016

The Bank of Italy would like to express its solidarity with the people of Central Italy so badly affected by the earthquake, and will make an immediate contribution as well as support the reconstruction effort.

The Bank has approved a donation of €1 million to the Civil Protection Department and has made available some of its buildings in the nearby cities of Rieti, Terni and Ascoli Piceno. These buildings, currently not in use but serviceable, can provide immediate shelter to families who have lost their homes or be used as temporary quarters for public offices and schools no longer fit for use.

The Bank, in keeping with the actions taken for the reconstruction of damaged areas, will submit to its Board of Directors a proposal to cover the costs of restructuring a building for the benefit of the local community.

Bank of Italy staff has decided to join in the effort by raising funds to support the population affected by the earthquake.
