Today Banca d'Italia published the 'Survey on Household Income and Wealth - 2022'.
MAIN RESULTS
In 2022, the average annual household income and equivalized income increased in real terms respectively by 1.4 and 1.8 per cent compared with 2020. However, they remain below the levels observed in 2006, before the global financial crisis (by 10 and 5 per cent, respectively).
Average household spending increased compared with 2020, mainly driven by purchases from households in the highest income quintile. Conversely, spending by households in the lowest quintile continued to decline.
Average wealth at constant prices increased by 1.8 per cent compared with 2020, while median wealth decreased by 2 per cent.
The share of indebted households remained stable at 26 per cent. The share of households that reported being over 90 days late on a debt payment decreased.
