What causes climate change? What are its economic consequences? What policies can be implemented to mitigate and adapt to climate change? What can be done to counter its economic effects? What is happening in the field of green finance? These are some of the questions answered by the new massive open online course (MOOC) 'Economics of the green transition' developed by the QFinLab of Politecnico di Milano University and Banca d'Italia. The course is designed to explore the profound impact of climate change on our lives, the increasing frequency of extreme events and the destruction of ecosystems. These phenomena now affect our daily lives and require urgent reflection.
Created as part of the EU-funded Edvance project, a digital education hub for advanced digital culture, this MOOC consists of six videos of about 7 minutes each, which use simple and precise language to provide an overview of the challenges posed by the transition to a climate-neutral economic model, as envisaged by the targets that Europe and other countries around the world aim to achieve by 2050.
The course describes how the climate transition works and how the financial system can support it. Finally, the MOOC illustrates how small daily actions taken by individuals can contribute to the fight against climate change. The videos are accompanied by self-assessment quizzes and additional exercises and materials designed for secondary school students and teachers to use in the classroom. The MOOC is accessible from the Politecnico di Milano website. The materials are also available on the Banca d'Italia and QFinLab websites.
