NGFS publishes three reports on Sustainable and Responsible Investing for Central Banks

16 May 2024

The Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) published today a cover report and two technical documents on Sustainable and Responsible Investing (SRI) in Central Banks' Portfolio Management. The cover report focuses on non-monetary policy portfolios (FX investments, own fund and pension fund portfolios). The report lays out non-binding recommendations to further advance understanding and adaptation of SRI practices.

The two Technical Documents provide in-depth insight into decarbonisation strategies for corporate portfolios of central Banks and climate-related risks and impact in sovereign debt portfolios.

The Network for Greening the Financial System is a group of central banks and supervisory authorities, which on voluntary basis is willing to share best practices and contribute to the development of environment and climate risk management in the financial sector, and to mobilize mainstream finance to support the transition toward a sustainable economy. The Bank of Italy is member of the Network's steering commitee since 2022 within its wider commitment to address climate change. Deputy Governor Paolo Angelini is the co-chair of the NGFS Workstream on Net Zero for Central Banks, which has prepared the three SRI documents.
