The final Italian edition of the 'Generation €uro Students' Award' 2023-24, a monetary policy competition for high schools, took place on 13 May in Rome. This initiative targets students in the last two years of secondary school and aims to deepen their understanding of the Bank of Italy's institutional functions while promoting economic and financial literacy.
This year, 57 teams participated in an initial selection round by answering questions on monetary policy, the euro and the European System of Central Banks. The teams that passed the pre-selection played the role of the European Central Bank's Governing Council in a simulation game, drafting/preparing and presenting a monetary policy decision. The top three teams, selected through a written test, were invited to Rome for the final competition:
- The 'Monetary snake' team from ISSIS Marco Minghetti, Legnago (VR)
- The 'I-SIA' team from the Agostino Bassi Technical, Economic, and Technological Institute, Lodi
- The 'EuroHRRST' team from the Marconi-Galilei Higher Education Institute, Torre Annunziata (NA)
The 'I-SIA' team, whose members were Matteo Maldis, Gian Pablo Andrade Rivas, Alberto Khafizov and Andrea Meraldi, under the supervision of their teacher Fabio Banderali, from ITET Agostino Bassi in Lodi, won the competition. Magda Bianco, Head of the Directorate General for Consumer Protection and Financial Education, awarded certificates of merit to the winners and certificates of participation to the other finalists.
The three finalist teams were given a tour of the Bank of Italy's headquarters at Palazzo Koch in the afternoon.
