Chiara Scotti at the International Workshop on 'Digital Assets and Monetary Policy Transmission'

4 May 2026

On 4 May, Banca d'Italia is hosting in Rome the international workshop on 'Digital Assets and Monetary Policy Transmission', jointly organized with the European Central Bank, the Euro Area Business Cycle Network (EABCN) and the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR).

The event brings together academics, economists and representatives of leading European and international financial institutions to discuss the role of digital assets - particularly stablecoins and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) - in monetary policy transmission mechanisms.

The workshop will open with a welcome address by Deputy Governor Chiara Scotti on the relationship between digital money and trust in financial markets. This will be followed by a keynote lecture by Hélène Rey, focusing on currency internationalization and crypto-assets, as well as three thematic sessions addressing, among other topics, liquidity provision, the impact of stablecoins on safe asset prices, financial stability, and the dynamics of monetary policy transmission. The event will also feature an interview with Piero Cipollone, member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank.
