Banca d'Italia and its artistic heritage: a commitment to culture and people
Banca d'Italia has always been committed to optimizing its artistic heritage, and considers it to be an integral part of its institutional identity and its role in society. This commitment is shown in the many initiatives designed to give the general public access to the Bank's works of art, historical buildings and cultural material.
The Bank's artistic heritage is accessible online, via the digital content available on its website, and in person, thanks to the monthly guided tours and the opening of the Bank's buildings for cultural events.
Banca d'Italia's art collection has been built up over time through several purchases and is a valuable and varied set of works ranging from ancient oriental art to 20th century Italian art, including Roman sculptures, Flemish tapestries and modern artwork. Although the collection is not structured like a traditional museum, it is spread among the Bank's properties in several Italian cities and made available both digitally and in temporary exhibitions.
The most important initiatives include the guided tours around Palazzo Koch, the Bank's headquarters in Rome, where Bank employees take people to see things of enormous historical and artistic worth.
The Bank also takes an active part in national cultural events, and opens its doors to the general public to make people aware of its heritage. The next appointment will be part of 'it's culture!', scheduled from 11 to 18 October 2025: this is a whole week dedicated to appreciating its cultural and artistic heritage. Details for taking part in the events will be available on this website.
To keep up to date with these initiatives, you can sign up to the email alert service.
To make it easier for people to visit exhbibitions and take part in the events organized by the Bank or in which the Bank participates by making its artistic heritage available, a new special section will soon be launched on the website. It will collect up-to-date information on appointments, online access and cultural content, helping people to get to know the Bank.
This initiative confirms Banca d'Italia's commitment to being not just an economic institution, but also an active cultural player that can contribute to the betterment of society in terms of spreading beauty and awareness.
