Artificial intelligence in Italian financial markets: OECD presents the final report
On 24 April 2026, Banca d'Italia is hosting the final event of the OECD project 'Artificial Intelligence in Italian Financial Markets - From Analysis to Action' at the Centro Convegni Carlo Azeglio Ciampi in Rome. During the event, the OECD will present the final report concluding the project devoted to the analysis of artificial intelligence use in Italian financial markets and its policy and supervisory implications.
The project - promoted by Banca d'Italia and implemented by the OECD with financial support from the European Union via the Technical Support Instrument and in cooperation with the European Commission's Reform and Investment Task Force - was launched in 2024. It has benefited from the active contribution of Italian financial authorities, including the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Italian Securities and Exchange Commission (CONSOB), the Insurance Supervisory Authority (IVASS) and the Pension Funds Supervisory Authority (COVIP). This collaboration made it possible to carry out a comprehensive analysis of the adoption of artificial intelligence across both the full financial markets value chain and key segments of the financial sector.
The final report provides a structured mapping of artificial intelligence applications currently in use or being experimented in Italian financial markets, highlighting their potential benefits in terms of operational efficiency, enhanced decision‑making processes and strengthened risk management frameworks. It also examines key risk areas and emerging challenges, notably with regard to governance, data quality, third‑party dependencies and operational and cyber resilience. Finally, the report outlines a set of high-level policy considerations to support a broader and more secure adoption of artificial intelligence.
The event opens with remarks by Chiara Scotti (Banca d'Italia), Judit Rozsa (European Commission) and Carmine Di Noia (OECD).
The agenda includes a panel discussion with representatives from industry and public sector authorities, moderated by Stefano Cappiello, (Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance).
The closing remarks will be delivered by Chiara Scotti and Judit Rozsa.
The event provides a forum for discussions among authorities, market participants and public institutions on the evolving role of artificial intelligence in the financial sector and on policies aimed at fostering its responsible and trustworthy use, in support of financial stability and consumer protection.
