Conference on the Economics of Payments

The Bank of Italy is organizing a conference on the Economics of Payments. The event will take place in Rome on September 18-19, 2025. The conference brings together scholars, academics, and experts from national and international institutions with the aim of fostering debate and research on the functioning, evolution, and regulation of both retail and wholesale payment systems.

The keynote speeches will be given by Fernando Alvarez (The Charles F. Gray Distinguished Service Professor in Economics and the College at the Kenneth C. Griffin Department of Economics, University of Chicago) and Miguel Díaz (Deputy Head of the Bank for International Settlements Innovation Hub).

The scientific committee consists of Luca Arciero (Banca d'Italia), Nicola Branzoli (Banca d'Italia), Michele Lanotte (Banca d'Italia), Stefano Pietrosanti (Banca d'Italia), Tara Rice (BIS), Kim P. Huynh (Bank of Canada), Matti Hellqvist (Bank of Finland), Daisuke Ikeda (Bank of Japan), Simonetta Rosati (ECB), Elena Falcettoni (Fed), Fumiko Hayashi (Fed), Zhu Wang (Fed), Marcello Miccoli (IMF), Helmut Elsinger (Austrian National Bank), Helmut Stix (Austrian National Bank), and Thomas Nellen (Swiss National Bank).

The organizing committee consists of Luca Arciero (Banca d'Italia), Nicola Branzoli (Banca d'Italia), Michele Lanotte (Banca d'Italia), and Stefano Pietrosanti (Banca d'Italia).
