The foreign exchange rates portal contains the Bank of Italy's exchange rate database, which reconstructs the time series for the US dollar, the French franc, the Swiss franc and the pound sterling against the Italian lira and, subsequently, against the euro. The time series for these currencies start on 1 February 1918, while those for the other currencies start on later dates, as the trade between Italy and the respective countries picked up. The list has been expanded over time, as shown by the time series start date for each foreign currency.
The exchange rates for the individual currencies against the US dollar, calculated based on their respective cross rates, are available from August 1955, subject to data availability in the exchange rate database.
In addition to the daily time series, the average monthly and yearly exchange rates are also published on the portal.
