Head of the IT Operations Directorate

Born in Rome on November 6, 1961, he completes his military service as an officer in the Artillery Corps, specializing in Anti-Aircraft. In 1987, he graduates with top honors in Statistical and Actuarial Sciences from the University of La Sapienza in Rome.

He is selected by Banco di Santo Spirito for a scholarship in Banking Informatics, after which he is hired in the IT department, where he begins working on database design and system support.

In 1989, he is hired by the Bank of Italy and assigned to IT department. He plays a key role in advancing the adoption of IT solutions that leverage innovative paradigms, alongside traditional centralized mainframe architectures. He is responsible for the design and implementation of infrastructures for numerous IT projects, including automating the Branch Cash Desk, introducing an Enterprise Resource Planning system for general accounting and treasury reporting, and developing distributed computing systems for economic research.

On the international stage, after collaborating on the development of the real-time settlement platform for financial transactions in the Euro area (Target2) and gaining experience by participating in the technical governance bodies of the European System of Central Banks, he is tasked with coordinating the design and implementation activities of the technical infrastructures for the pan-European real-time securities settlement platform (Target2 Securities). He assumes the role of infrastructure area manager for the four Central Banks involved in the initiative (4CB) until the platform's release.

In 2017, he assumes the role of Head of the T2/T2S Platform and Central Systems Division, overseeing the launch of the real-time instant payment settlement platform (TIPS), which operates continuously 24 hours a day, every day of the year. In 2019, he joins the staff of the IT Development Directorate with the responsibility of supporting the Head of IT on developing and evolving the Eurosystem's market infrastructures. He also represents the IT function in the governance bodies of the 4CB and serves as the Directorate's liaison for international cooperation. In 2023, he is appointed Deputy Head of the IT Operations Directorate, and in April 2025, he assumes the role of Head of the Directorate.

He is happily married and has one child.
