Born in Terni on January 4, 1958, he graduated with honours in Computer Information Sciences from the University of Pisa in 1981.

In the same year he began to work as a programmer for a small company specialized in developing software for accounting management. In 1984 he joined Alitalia where he was responsible for the deployment of personal computers and office automation software. He helped to set up ICT services for the worldwide network of agencies.

He joined the Bank of Italy in 1990, where he was assigned to the Interbank Automation Development Division of the ICT Department, taking part in study groups for the development of the National Interbank Network.

In 1991 he was assigned to the System Support Division of the SESI, which promotes and coordinates several initiatives relating to the evolution of intermediate systems and infrastructure to connect with external bodies. He was involved in preparing the infrastructure for the exchange of information sent by the State Accounting Office, the implementation of public key infrastructure, the evolution of systems for the Economic Research Department and the development of infrastructure connecting to the Internet. At international level, he participates in the implementation of storage systems for the TARGET2 Single Shared Platform.

In 2009 he was assigned to the ICT Operations and Infrastructure Department as Head of the User Assistance and Service Quality of Division. In that capacity he oversaw the development of the Service Desk and the program for the engineering of processes for IT service management. In the Eurosystem, he provided support for the representatives of the Information Technology Committee.

On 23 June 2014 he was appointed Head of the IT Planning Directorate.

On 31 January 2020 he was nominated Head of the IT Development Directorate.
