He was born in Corigliano Calabro (Cosenza) on 21 August 1970. In 1993, he graduated with honours in Economics, specializing in Monetary and Financial Economics (Bocconi University, Milan). He joined the Bank of Italy in 1995 and began working in the Analyses and Studies Division of the Supervision Area. In 2003, he took a Master in Finance degree at the University of Princeton.

He works in the areas of financial stability, macroprudential analysis and stress tests, and represents the Bank of Italy in working groups in these fields at the Financial Stability Board (FSB), the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB), the ECB and the European Banking Authority (EBA).

In 2012, he was appointed Head of the Macroprudential Analysis Division in the Regulation and Macroprudential Analysis Directorate, of which he became Deputy Head in 2017.

He has been Head of the Financial Stability Directorate in the Directorate General for Economics, Statistics and Research since April 2020.
