As of January 2024, the Bank of Italy started publishing its Distributional Wealth Accounts (DWA). These statistics provide information on the distribution of Italian household wealth, combining national accounts aggregates from balance sheets with survey data from the Household Finance and Consumption Survey (HFCS) - the harmonized survey on household finances in the euro area countries, which incorporates the Bank of Italy's Survey on Household Income and Wealth.
The compilation of the Distributional Wealth Accounts follows a methodology commonly agreed within the European System of Central Banks and enriched by the use of additional national sources. More details on the methodology are available in the ECB methodological note. Data will be compiled on a quarterly basis and published approximately five months after the end of the reference period.
