To make its toll-free number more accessible, Banca d'Italia provides a service for deaf people by customizing the free 'Pedius' App for smartphones and tablets. The app makes it easier to access information on some of Banca d'Italia's services: the Banking and Financial Ombudsman, Complaints, the Central Credit Register and the Interbank Register of Bad Cheques and Payment Cards.

  • By submitting a complaint to Banca d'Italia, customers can report behaviours on the part of banks and financial intermediaries which they deem to be irregular or wrong, or report irregularities in the information held in the Central Credit Register (CR) or in the Bad Cheques and Payment Cards (CAI).

  • The Banking and Financial Ombudsman (ABF) is an alternative dispute resolution system for customer complaints about banks and other financial intermediaries. It is an independent and impartial organization, with regional panels located in Bari, Bologna, Milan, Naples, Palermo, Rome and Turin.

  • The service allows you to see any data registered in your name in Banca d'Italia's Central Credit Register. The service is free of charge. The Central Credit Register (CR) is an information system that collects the data supplied by banks and financial companies (intermediaries) on loans granted and guarantees issued to their customers (households and firms).

  • The service allows you to check any data on you held in its database, makes it possible to monitor the regular circulation of bank and post office cheques and payment cards, and to request clarifications on how the Register works. The service is free of charge.

  • The consultation service for the 'Supervisory registers and lists' allows anyone who is interested to find out whether a bank or financial intermediary is included in the relevant supervisory register and what financial services it is authorized to provide to the public.

  • The service allows you to have Banca d'Italia cashier's cheques issued or to cash them in. A cashier's cheque is an instrument issued by Banca d'Italia at the customer's request and it has the same status as a banker's draft or postal money order. Many Banca d'Italia cashier's cheques are issued at the request of the State Revenue Agency to refund income or other tax credits.

  • Banca d'Italia acts as State treasurer: it handles payments and collections on behalf of the State Administration. Citizens can receive wages and salaries and other payments from government bodies, pay what they owe to them on their own account or for a third party, and obtain reports on the transactions carried out.

  • The service will replace damaged euro banknotes and coins and change euro banknotes and coins for different denominations.

  • Anyone who has doubts about the authenticity of a banknote in their possession should not attempt to spend it because they would be committing a crime. The service makes it possible find out if banknotes are counterfeit; if they are genuine, the person handing it in will be reimbursed.

  • The service allows users to consult documents in the Historical Archives at Banca d'Italia's Headquarters and branches. Itis free of charge. Users can consult the textual records archive, the photographic archive and the multimedia archive.

  • At Banca d'Italia's Library it is possible to consult the catalogue and collections in the reading rooms, make photocopies, within the limits of copyright law, consult via Internet the Library catalogue and the catalogue of on-line resources, get remote bibliographical and documentary information services.

Financial education

You can access the entire Financial Education programme on the Bank of Italy's 'Economics for everyone' portal, which is aimed at children, adults, the general public, schools and universities. The Bank of Italy is committed to promoting financial education and is a member of the Committee for planning and coordinating financial education activities.  "Economics for everyone", which follows on from 'Quello che conta', the national portal, summarizes the full range of the Bank of Italy's financial education programme.

Knowing more about finance means people have a better understanding of the risks and opportunities of products on offer. They can make more informed choices about borrowing, saving and pensions and help to make the market more stable, inclusive and efficient. The Portal provides news, videos, calculators, games and infographs that will make learning fun and practical together with useful tools for everyday choices, including online purchases, opening a current account, managing the family budget and applying for a loan. "Economics for everyone" is a good place to start for anyone who wants to know more about economics and finance, and be better informed about how to make the best choices.
