Fintech survey of Italian non-supervised entities - 2026
This report presents the findings of Banca d'Italia's second survey of Italian fintech companies that are not classified as supervised intermediaries. Conducted in 2026 and referring to operations in the previous year, the survey aims to provide a deeper understanding of a market segment dominated by young, technologically advanced firms that are increasingly integrated into the traditional financial system.
Participation in the survey is voluntary. The information collected therefore provides a snapshot of the participating firms and serves as a basis for analysing developments in the sector.
The report is divided into three chapters:
Chapter 1 outlines the characteristics and operating models of non-supervised fintech companies, focusing on their structure and geographical distribution, international presence, areas of activity and business models. It also examines product strategies, innovation dynamics, enabling technologies and human capital.
Chapter 2 examines firms' financial strategies, growth dynamics and expansion plans. The analysis focuses on funding sources and investment in fintech, growth prospects, intellectual property and certifications, collaborations with other entities in the ecosystem, and the main obstacles to development.
Chapter 3 analyses non-supervised fintech companies' views o on the regulatory framework, focusing on the importance they attach to different regulations, their effects on business activities, and the approaches adopted for managing compliance.
The survey shows that Italian non-supervised fintech firms are an integral part of the financial sector's value chain, while continuing to face significant challenges in terms of growth, market access, funding and collaboration with supervised entities. The findings complement those of the latest Fintech Survey of the Italian financial system, contributing to a comprehensive view of the financial innovation ecosystem in Italy.
