Fintech survey of Italian non-supervised entities - 2025
This report presents the findings of the fact-finding survey conducted between February and April 2025 on the landscape of Italian fintech players that are not classified as supervised intermediaries. The survey, which refers to operations in 2024, aims to provide a deeper understanding of a rapidly transforming market segment capable of redefining operational processes and customer interaction models.
Given the absence of an official register for these entities, the sample was identified through a preliminary activity based on Banca d'Italia's Fintech taxonomy (cf. MISP no. 61). The information collected offers a detailed picture and represents an important information base for the analysis of the sector.
The report is divided into four chapters:
Chapter 1 outlines the structural characteristics and operating models of the analyzed firms, with a focus on geographical distribution, sectors of activity, and the enabling technologies driving their product strategies.
Chapter 2 examines growth dynamics and financial strategies, delving into funding sources, ecosystem collaborations, and the main obstacles hindering expansion.
Chapter 3 is dedicated to human capital, analyzing the employment structure, the share of technical personnel, and the professional skills required to support innovation in the sector.
Chapter 4 analyzes the non-supervised operators' perception of the regulatory framework, assessing the impact of specific regulations and the approach adopted by firms for compliance management.
