Fintech Survey of the Italian financial system - 2025
This report presents the results of the fifth Fintech survey conducted by Banca d'Italia during 2025. The survey is based on investment projects carried out in the two-year period 2023-24 and on those that financial intermediaries plan to undertake in the following two‑year period.
The report is divided into five chapters.
The first chapter describes the characteristics of fintech investment projects, innovations in business areas, and the digital services provided (loans and deposits). It also analyses additional forms of technological adoption, including partnerships and equity stakes in IT service providers.
The second chapter examines recurring elements in the digital strategies adopted by intermediaries focusing on governance arrangements.
The remaining three chapters are monographic sections on the use of artificial intelligence, digital solutions to combat money laundering and terrorist financing and the impact of technologies on customer protection.
Both the sample size and the range of phenomena surveyed have been expanded. The effects on estimates are reported in the section 'Investment projects' in the first chapter; further methodological details are provided in the appendix.
