Banca d'Italia, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Milano, and Università degli Studi Roma Tre signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last October to conduct joint research on the use of smart contracts in the provision of banking, financial, and insurance services.
The project involves two phases. Phase one is nearing completion and focuses on defining the characteristics of blockchains and the execution of smart contracts in blockchain. Phase two, yet to be initiated, will be devoted to establishing best practices for the most common smart contracts in the banking, financial, and insurance sectors.
All organizations, institutions, and companies interested in using smart contracts in the above-mentioned sectors are invited to provide observations and comments on the document by 28 July using this online form (only in Italian).
After taking into account the feedback received, the draft document from phase one will be finalized and published. The final document will then serve as the foundation for commencing phase two of the research project, in collaboration with any additional interested parties.
