Phishing

Attempted digital scam through which malicious parties seek to acquire private or confidential information by pretending to be a reliable entity in an electronic communication.

Malware

Software designed with malicious intent that contains features that can potentially harm entities or their information systems directly or indirectly.

Ransomware

Malware that is used to commit extortion by compromising access to an information system or to its stored information until a ransom demand is met.

Social engineering

General term to try to trick people into revealing information or performing certain actions.

What can you do when you suspect or believe you have been the victim of computer fraud in the use of financial services?

If you believe you have been the victim of computer fraud, you should first contact your bank or insurance company to stop any unauthorized transactions. You can also report the crime to the Postal and Communications Police, or contact the Banking and Financial Ombudsman, or lodge a complaint with Banca d'Italia.
