The staff of the Bank of Italy are hired by a selective process involving public competitions open to all European Union citizens who meet the requirements for participation. Promotions are based on individual merit, assessed by means of a complex system of evaluation of each employee's performance and results attained, including selective internal tests at various levels.

In performing their duties, employees must comply with the general principles of the staff code of conduct, which is consonant with the public nature of the Bank and the importance of the interests entrusted to it.
