Giuseppe Grande

Market and Payment Systems Oversight Directorate

Born in Rome in 1963, he is married and has a son.

He has been Head of the Market and Payment Systems Oversight Directorate since 3 April 2025. In this role, he is responsible for the oversight of payment systems and the supervision of post-trading infrastructures in Italy, as well as the supervision of the MTS Italy government bond market and the business continuity of the Italian financial system. His Directorate contributes to the development of international and national standards and regulations and conducts studies.

He is a member of the Italian delegation to the OECD Committee on Financial Markets, of the scientific committee of the LTI@UniTO research association and of the Italian Economic Association (Società Italiana di Economia).

He joined Banca d'Italia in 1992, in the monetary policy office of the DG for Economics, Statistics and Research. From 2000 to 2020, he headed organizational units and projects dealing with the analysis of financial markets and institutional investors for monetary policy and financial stability purposes. From 2013 to 2020, he was a member of the Bank's Investment Committee and in 2019-20, he led the monetary policy component of a European Commission programme for the Bank of Albania. In October 2020, he became Deputy Head of the Market and Payment Systems Oversight Directorate. He has represented the Bank in several working groups under the Basel committees (CGFS, BCBS, CPMI) and the G20.

He is the author of research papers and policy notes on monetary policy, financial stability, asset management, cross-border payments and post-trading infrastructures.

In 1989, he graduated in economics from Sapienza University in Rome. He then obtained a master's degree in economics from the Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium) and attended courses in mathematical economics at the Université Paris I (France). He was a recipient of scholarships from the National Research Council of Italy and ENI. In 1999, he was a Special Student at Harvard University (USA).
