Tommaso Perez

Head of the Financial Risk Management Directorate

Tommaso Perez was born in Rome on 2 October 1966. In 1992, he graduated cum laude in Economics and Business from "La Sapienza" University of Rome. In 1994, he obtained a Master's degree in Economics of the European Community from the University of Exeter (with distinction). In 1996, he earned a PhD in Political Economy from the University of Ancona. In 1997, he attended the Finance and Investment Technology Programme at the University of Berkeley.

In 1996, he joined the Italian Foreign Exchange Office, where he was involved in the management of foreign exchange reserves and euro-denominated assets. In 2008, he joined the Bank of Italy and was assigned to the Financial Risk Management Directorate. Within this Directorate, he served as Head of the Institutional Activities Financial Risk Control Division and Head of the Financial Risk Management Division. Over the years, he has actively contributed to the work of the Eurosystem's Risk Management Committee, the Task Force on the Risk Management Framework of Monetary Policy Operations in the Long Run, the Eurosystem's ABSPP Transaction Committee, and the Markets Committee of the Bank for International Settlements. He has also been a member of the editorial board of the Financial Stability Report.

In 2023, he was appointed Deputy Head of the Financial Risk Management Directorate. In the same year, he became a member of the Eurosystem's Risk Management Committee. In June 2026, he was appointed Head of the Financial Risk Management Directorate.

He is the author and co-author of numerous publications on industrial organization and finance.
