No. 1545 - Superbonus and work injuries in the construction sector in Italy

This paper examines whether the rise in construction employment induced by the Superbonus was accompanied by a change in the construction injury rate.
Between 2021 and 2023, the Superbonus led to an increase in construction employment and, contrary to expectations, a decline in the rate of severe workplace injuries. The effect was stronger in the regions where the incentive was used more extensively. It is plausible that firms strengthened preventive measures, since violations of workplace safety regulations could have resulted in the loss of this substantial incentive.
