The report is divided into six chapters: the first five cover the performance of the functions entrusted to the Bank of Italy as part of the European System of Central Banks and by Italian law; the sixth describes the Bank’s activity in the fields of economic research, international cooperation and statistics. In view of the novelty of the document, particular attention is paid to how the Bank exercises its powers, although the focus is on the results of the action taken in 2005 and the early months of this year. The appendix contains information on the organizational arrangements of the Bank.
