As part of its strategy to provide more information to the public, the Bank of Italy, for the first time, has made available for research purposes the microdata on the balance sheets of credit institutions operating in Italy.
Upon submission of information on the research project, users will be able to use the data on individual banks' balance sheets (IBBaSS), through the remote execution system (REX). The database contains the end-of-period stocks of the balance sheet items broken down by counterparty's sector and place of residence, as well as by original maturity, instrument and purpose. The database consists of banking statistics harmonized on the basis of common criteria defined at the Eurosystem level. The data are available starting with December 2003.
At the same time, supplemental information for the analyses is also published, e.g. affiliation to any banking groups.
