Digitalization has significantly increased the efficiency and accessibility of financial services, while also expanding cyber and operational vulnerabilities across the financial system. Strengthening digital operational resilience has therefore become a strategic priority for financial authorities and financial entities worldwide, including in emerging and developing economies.
This webinar aims to provide an overview of the evolving cyber risk landscape and, from a systemic perspective, the main regulatory, supervisory, and cooperation frameworks developed at international, European, and national level to enhance financial sector resilience and business continuity. Particular attention will be devoted to supervisory practices and new methodologies, public-private cooperation mechanisms, and cross-sector coordination initiatives aimed at strengthening the resilience and continuity of critical financial services, also considering growing interdependencies with external ICT and infrastructure providers.
The session will also examine operational resilience methodologies and tools, including testing frameworks, supervisory experiences within the Eurosystem, and crisis coordination arrangements for managing large-scale cyber incidents affecting the financial system.
In addition, the webinar will address key emerging challenges, including third-party and supply chain dependencies, financial fraud, and the implications of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), distributed ledger technology (DLT), and quantum computing.
Finally, the discussion will explore the growing importance of systemic cyber risk and the approaches available to authorities to assess, monitor, and mitigate potential impacts on financial stability.
The webinar aims to promote the exchange of experiences, supervisory practices, and policy approaches to strengthen digital operational resilience and cybersecurity across the financial ecosystem, including those of authorities, financial institutions, and critical service providers.
