Technological innovation, including artificial intelligence, is widely used by financial operators to expand their business opportunities. Financial authorities are increasingly exploring and leveraging innovative techniques and tools in their supervisory activities.

Technologies based on process automation, data analytics and machine learning can help supervisors contain costs, improve their operational capabilities and achieve greater efficiency in the supervisory process; at the same time, the use of these technologies may pose new challenges to authorities.

This seminar aims to provide an overview of Banca d'Italia's experience in the field of Suptech and possible future developments; some cases relating to the application of supervisory technology will be examined, for example, in relation to the fit and proper assessment of board members and company managers, the analysis of corporate governance documentation, and the preparation and review of on-site inspection reports.
