In order to address the challenges posed by technology, Banca d'Italia is implementing a strategy to support financial institutions and market operators and to promote sound and responsible innovation, thereby ensuring financial stability and consumer protection. In this context, Banca d'Italia has set up three different innovation facilitators: the Fintech Channel, Milano Hub and the Regulatory Sandbox.

The Fintech Channel is the point of contact through which operators can interact easily and informally with Banca d'Italia. They can present projects in the fields of financial services and payments, based on innovative technology, or propose technological solutions designed for banks and financial intermediaries.

Milano Hub is Banca d'Italia's innovation centre, which supports the development of innovative projects to strengthen the financial system and improve the quality and safety of specific technological solutions. Milano Hub sends out calls for proposals across different areas of innovation and selects the most promising projects to be developed on in cooperation with a multidisciplinary team of Banca d’Italia experts.

The Regulatory Sandbox is a controlled environment where supervised entities and Fintech operators can test technologically innovative products and services in the banking, financial and insurance sectors for a limited period of time.

This webinar illustrates how Banca d'Italia - in full compliance with its institutional roles - assists various operators at all stages, from individual requests for support and to exchange knowledge (Fintech Channel), to the development of projects or research initiatives, together with market operators and the academic world (Milano Hub), through to experimentation with the advanced technological solutions to be placed on the market (Regulatory Sandbox).

Experts from Banca d'Italia and other stakeholders will share their experience and discuss the role that central banks can play in the field of digital innovation.
