Like other institutions, central banks are facing management challenges, which are becoming more intertwined and more complex, also in light of the impact of the pandemic shock. By looking at the organization as a system, this seminar will discuss emerging trends, recent experiences, and lessons learned in the areas of strategic planning, budgeting and cost management, financial reporting, and human resources, as well as monitoring of legal, reputational, and financial risks. Best practices and tools will be examined, with special attention to: the role of technology in fostering efficiency and smart working, the role of information in decision-making, the introduction of flexible benefits and the focus on people care, and, more in general, the accountability of a central bank.

Specific case studies and examples from Banca d'Italia's experience will be provided. Participants will be asked to take an active part in discussions and analysis of the case studies; first-hand testimonies will also be encouraged.
