Is the Head of the Secretariat to the Governing Board Directorate since November 2020.

Mr. Pagano joined the Bank of Italy in 1996 in the Directorate General for Economics and Statistics, where he later led the Advanced Economies and International Finance Division.

From November 2014 to October 2020 he was Executive Director of the World Bank Group, representing Albania, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, San Marino, and Timor-Leste. He was also the Chairman of the Executive Board’s Budget Committee and co-Dean of the Executive Board.

Mr. Pagano graduated in Economics and Social Sciences from Bocconi University in Milan in 1990, holds a Master of Science in Economics from the University of London, Birkbeck College (UK) and earned his Doctorate in Economics at the University of Pavia (Italy).

He has been lecturer in Economics at Bocconi University, Milan, and visiting scholar in the Department of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley; and has authored and co-authored several articles on Macroeconomics, International Finance, Trade, and Growth, publishing in journals like the Journal of International Economics and the Journal of Applied Econometrics.
