Payment system

Banca d'Italia disseminates information on the payment system on a semi-annual basis. The information relates to four different thematic areas.

First, the time series provide information on payments, with data on instruments, channels, technologies, cross-border transactions, open banking and access to cash.

Second, the series present regional information on ATMs and POS terminals, non-cash transactions and indicators of access to cash.

Third, the indicators relate to collections and payments of general government entities, with data processed by the State Treasury and SIOPE+.

Lastly, the fourth area relates to interbank settlement systems and central securities management.
