Foreign workers' remittances sent abroad in the first quarter of 2025
In the first quarter of 2025, workers’ remittances sent abroad by foreign residents in Italy increased by 6.0 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The increase in remittances sent to Asian countries (+17.5 percent), to North Africa and the Near East countries (+10.0 percent) and to European countries outside the European Union (+1.5 percent) more than offset the decline in flows to European Union countries (-9.2 percent), Sub-Saharan Africa (-8.5 percent) and Central and Southern America (-1.6 percent; table 1).
Based on the four quarters ending in March 2025, Bangladesh, Morocco, and Pakistan are the top three recipient countries of remittances from Italy, with the first receiving 17.9 percent of the outbound flows and both the second and third receiving 6.9 percent (table 2).
