Foreign workers' remittances sent abroad in the second quarter of 2025
In the second quarter of 2025, remittances sent abroad by foreign residents in Italy increased by 6.4 percent compared with the same period of the previous year (Table 1). The marked rise in flows directed to Asia (+17.8 percent) and the more moderate increases in remittances to North Africa and the Near East (+3.4 percent) and to European countries outside the European Union (+1.6 percent) more than offset the decline in remittances both to sub-Saharan Africa (-7.0 percent) and to EU countries (-6.4 percent). Flows to Central and South America remained broadly stable (+0.7 percent).
Over the four quarters ending in June 2025, Bangladesh, the Philippines, and Morocco were the top three recipient countries of remittances from Italy, with the first accounting for 18.8 percent of total outflows and the other two for 6.7 percent each (table 2).
