Information on the economic and financial conditions of households comes from different sources. National accounts, through the Financial Accounts and Balance Sheets, provide detailed information on financial and non-financial assets, as well as on financial liabilities. Banca d'Italia also conducts sample surveys to capture heterogeneity in households' income, wealth, and consumption, as well as other aspects related to their economic and financial behaviour. Lastly, the Distributional Wealth Accounts provide information on the distribution of household wealth by combining national accounts aggregates from balance sheets with survey data from the Household Finance and Consumption Survey (HFCS), the harmonised survey on household finances in euro-area countries, which incorporates the survey conducted by Banca d'Italia.
