This volume, which inaugurates the "Statistics" of the Historical series of the Bank of Italy, is a consultation tool in which the main official statistics of the economic accounts of Italy from 1890 to 1970, an indispensable source to quantify the economic development in the first hundred years of the Italian State, are collected and commented.

In the introductory essay, Guido Rey provides a framework of the evolution of the Italian economy, which allows a critical evaluation of the data; Ornello Vitali makes a thorough analysis of the estimation methods used in the Italian national accounts. A comprehensive bibliography completes the volume.
