Workshop "The economics of occupational licensing"
Rome, Palazzo Koch, 8 November 2019
The workshop focused on the effects of occupational licensing on labor market outcomes and service quality. Prof. Morris Kleiner (University of Minnesota) opened the workshop with an invited lecture that provided a broad overview of the research on the topic that he and his coauthors have carried out over the years, looking at the experience of different countries.
Other leading scholars in this field presented their research on the effects of regulation on wages, quality of professionals, labor market outcomes and productivity. In a closing roundtable, experts and policy makers from the European Commission, the OECD, the Italian Antitrust authority and the Bank of Italy discussed the issues related to the political economy of regulation and to the challenges coming from the digitalization.
