The Bank of Italy today publishes 'TIPS - TARGET Instant Payment Settlement', the first issue of the new series 'Markets, infrastructures, payment systems', to contribute to the dissemination of knowledge on the functioning of markets and payment systems and to foster debate among the institutions, economic operators and members of the public.
The publications in the new series will be didactic in scope, primarily targeting non-specialist readers, but equally take a close look at the frontier issues of technological and financial innovation, with specialists in mind.
The first issue is dedicated to instant payments and the TIPS platform, for which the Bank of Italy has the role of single manager for the entire Eurosystem. TIPS can help overcome the fragmentation of the European retail payments market and help spread the use of instant payments.
