The new €100 and €200 banknotes of the Europa series enter into circulation today

The new €100 and €200 banknotes enter into circulation today, marking the completion of the Europa series issuances.

Their length is the same as those of the first series, but the height has been reduced and is now the same as the €50 banknote. This ensures that the notes fit better in people's wallets.

The new security features are as follows:

  • a satellite hologram has been inserted at the top of the hologram stripe: if the banknote is tilted, the € symbol becomes visible and appears to move around the numeral indicating the value of the banknote;
  • the emerald number, already present in the other denominations of the Europa series, has been enhanced with an additional feature: the € symbol now appears several times inside the numeral.

To help the blind and the visually impaired, tactile marks have been placed along the right and left edges of the front of the banknotes, with one gap on the €100 notes and two gaps on the €200 note.

The notes of the first series will continue to be legal tender and to circulate together with those of the Europa series.

All the euro banknotes are difficult to counterfeit but easy to check using the three-step Feel-Look-Tilt test.
