The economic conditions of European households as a result of the pandemic

The article entitled 'The economic conditions of European households as a result of the pandemic', and edited by Bank of Italy researchers, is now online. All the advanced economies have now adopted measures of varying degrees of strictness to contain the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). The measures try to balance the need to shield the population with that of not completely closing down economic activity, in order to guarantee, above all, the supply of essential goods and services; the strictness of the measures is therefore gradually being adapted according to the spread of the virus. Nevertheless, these measures are having profound effects on most people's work opportunities and income-earning capacity, and extending them would exacerbate pre-existing economic difficulties and could potentially create new ones.
