The digital version of the Historical series of the Bank of Italy is now online

The Historical series of the Bank of Italy is now available in digital format https://www.bancaditalia.it/pubblicazioni/collana-storica/index.html.

The Series includes publications relating to Italy's economic, monetary and financial history. The project was launched by the then Governor Carlo Azeglio Ciampi with the historian Carlo Cipolla as advisor and comprises 46 volumes, initially published by Laterza between 1989 and 2011, and subsequently by Marsilio Editori.

The volumes, amounting to more than 26,000 pages overall, are organized in four series: Documents, Statistics, Analysis, and Essays and Research.

The Documents series includes the most significant primary sources for the Bank's historical archive (e.g. official internal documents, correspondence, speeches, and newspaper articles).
The Statistics series, comprising real and financial time series, presents aggregate estimates of production (in addition to those of prices and foreign trade), works drawing on balance sheet data of Italian issuing institutions and the Italian banking system, and data on Italy's GDP since 1861. The Analysis series includes studies and analyses on specific topics relating to Italy's economic and monetary history from the late nineteenth century onwards. The Essays and Research series features monographic essays.

The full text of each volume, preceded by a description, can be freely accessed online, exported, and edited using other IT tools. Critical apparatuses and more content in English are available to facilitate access for an international audience.

The Series has an 'open access' policy. The activities relating to the Series are coordinated by a Scientific Committee chaired by Governor Ignazio Visco.
