From 31 October 2023 to 28 April 2024, the 'Adventure of Money' exhibition created by Paco Lanciano and Giovanni Carrada for the Bank of Italy will be on display at Palazzo Esposizioni Roma.
The Adventure of Money provides a fascinating preview of the upcoming Bank of Italy Money Museum and its displays (MUDEM), and takes visitors on a journey through the main events in the history of money and finance from the ancient Mesopotamian past to the Twentieth century.
The nine exhibition rooms provide an itinerary that begins with the story of modern economic systems and maps out the birth and evolution of the main monetary and financial instruments and events, from the earliest minted money to present-day digital transactions and payment systems. The last three rooms illustrate the growing importance of finance nowadays, the risks and benefits involved in its evolution and the role of central banks in ensuring financial stability and consumer protection.
Advanced immersive visual technologies blend with traditional elements of museum display for an enhanced visitor experience. By means of sound and lighting effects and computer animations, each exhibit will come to life and engage with the visitor, telling its own story.
A narrating voice will accompany visitors along their itinerary using a simple yet effective language that is suitable for all visitors, whatever their familiarity with the themes of the exhibition.
Primary school children will be able to enjoy a simplified itinerary conceived especially for them.
MUDEM invites the head teachers and teaching staff from schools of all levels to a special event at the Salone Margherita, in Rome, on 6 October. The event will be attended by Paco Lanciano and features a presentation of this new initiative and of the range of educational activities and workshops for schools on offer in connection with the exhibition.
