Governor Fabio Panetta met in Singapore with Mr Chia Der Jiun, Managing Director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). They met on the sidelines of the meeting of the Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI) of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), chaired by Banca d'Italia's Governor.
Governor Panetta and Managing Director Chia discussed several topics, including digital innovation in payments and in clearing and settlement infrastructure.
The CPMI is a standard-setting body that makes recommendations on the safety and efficiency of payment, clearing and settlement systems, thereby supporting financial stability. It also serves as a forum for central bank cooperation on supervisory policy and related operational matters, including the provision of central bank services.
