G7 Central Banks Publish First Report on Quantum Technologies

12 May 2026

On May 11, 2026, the central banks of the G7 countries published their first report on quantum technologies and their potential implications for the financial system.

The report, titled 'Preparing for Quantum Technologies: Key Considerations for the Financial Sector', examines the opportunities and risks associated with these innovations, highlighting potential impacts on security, resilience, market functioning, and information processing capabilities.

The report aims to provide a shared analytical framework to support central banks and financial sector stakeholders in addressing the challenges posed by the development of quantum technologies.

The work was carried out by the Quantum Technologies Working Group (QTWG), established in 2025 and composed of G7 central banks. Co-chaired by the Banque de France and the Bank of Canada, the group fosters dialogue among public institutions, the financial sector, and technology operators on this emerging topic.
