G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meet on Friday 26 February 2021

G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) will meet on Friday 26 February 2021, for the first G20 Finance Track ministerial meeting under the Italian G20 Presidency. The event will be held in virtual mode.

The Italian G20 Presidency officially started on December 1st 2020. Since then, officials from member and host countries, together with representatives from international organisations, have been meeting regularly to set the agenda and address the most pressing issues on the global economy.

Under the Finance Track, the G20 addresses global economic, fiscal and monetary issues. Since the Covid-19 outbreak, the Finance Track has been engaged in coping with the economic impact of the pandemic and fostering a strong, sustainable and inclusive economic recovery.

On Friday, Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors will discuss the work programme and the 2021 priorities. These are structured around the 3Ps framework of the Italian G20 Presidency: People, Planet and Prosperity.

The challenges posed by the Covid-19 crisis will call for enhanced global coordination on economic and fiscal measures. Ministers and Governors will discuss the need to foster a rapid and transformative recovery from the Covid-19 crisis, and solutions to bringing the global economy back on the path of growth. They will assess the advancements made by the working groups and will exchange views on health, climate, support to the most vulnerable countries and international taxation related issues. The debate will also touch upon financial sector issues such as financial regulation, financial inclusion and sustainable finance.

The first FMCBG meeting will be followed by a press conference hosted by the Italian G20 Presidency with the Italian Minister of Economy and Finance, Daniele Franco, the Governor of the Bank of Italy, Ignazio Visco, and their respective deputies, Alessandro Rivera and Giuseppe Parigi.

The press conference will be held on Friday 26 February at 17.15 CET in virtual mode. Journalists interested in joining the press conference will find media accreditation procedures and related information in this Media Handbook.
